Bristlecone Pine (Pinus aristata) is one of the oldest and most remarkable tree species in North America. Native to the high mountains of the Rocky Mountains, these slow-growing evergreens are prized for their twisted trunks, dense blue-green needles, and exceptional longevity. Mature trees develop a rugged, weathered appearance that makes them highly desirable for landscape specimens, bonsai, and alpine gardens.

Bristlecone Pine thrives in well-drained soils and prefers full sun locations. Once established, these trees are highly drought tolerant and exceptionally cold hardy, making them suitable for a wide range of climates. Their slow growth rate contributes to their longevity and distinctive character, often allowing them to live for centuries.

Although no pre-treatment is required, we recommend 30 days of cold moist stratification to improve germination results. Sow seeds in a well-draining growing medium and maintain consistent moisture during germination. Seedlings grow slowly but reward patient gardeners with unique and long-lived trees.
