Germination Instructions

Silver Fir seeds benefit from cold moist stratification to help break dormancy.

  1. Place the seeds in a moist mixture of peat moss or vermiculite inside a sealed plastic bag.
  2. Refrigerate for 30 days at approximately 34-41°F (1-5°C).
  3. After stratification, sow seeds approximately 1/8 to 1/4 inch deep in a well-draining seed-starting mix.
  4. Keep the growing medium evenly moist but not saturated.
  5. Place seed trays in a bright location and use a humidity dome to help maintain moisture during germination.
  6. Germination may occur over several weeks as temperatures remain between 60-70°F.
