Germination Instructions

1. Soak the Chilean Wine Palm seeds in distilled water for 3 days. Change the water daily to help keep it clean and fresh. It is normal for Chilean Wine Palm seeds to float during soaking.
2. Prepare a growing medium consisting of approximately 50% sand or perlite and 50% well-mixed, well-draining potting soil. Thoroughly blend the ingredients before planting.
3. Plant the seeds and cover them with a thin layer of sand approximately 1/8 inch deep.
4. Heat is very important for successful Chilean Wine Palm seed germination. Use a heated propagator or seedling heat mat to maintain a consistent soil temperature of approximately 90°F.
5. Keep the growing medium evenly moist but never overly wet or waterlogged. Excess moisture may encourage mold, mildew, or seed rot. Water approximately once per month with a properly diluted 15% fungicide solution if needed.
6. Germination is naturally slow and uneven, as it is with many palm species. Seeds may begin germinating within 3–6 months, although some may require additional time. Do not discard seeds that have not sprouted, as they may still be viable and germinate later.
7. Periodically inspect the seeds for signs of mold or mildew. If mold or mildew is found, carefully remove the affected seeds, clean them with a copper-based fungicide according to the product directions, and rinse them thoroughly. Replant the cleaned seeds in a fresh, sterile, well-draining potting mixture.
