Germination Instructions

1. Scarify each seed by gently rubbing the hard outer shell with medium-grit sandpaper. Rub only enough to lightly thin or roughen the seed coat without damaging the interior.
2. Soak the seeds in warm water for 2–3 days. Use a thermos to help maintain a water temperature between 80–86°F. Change the water every 12–14 hours. After soaking, carefully remove any loose blue outer skin remaining around the seeds.
3. Fill pots or seed trays with a sterile, well-draining mixture of moist sphagnum peat moss and seed-starting mix. Plant the seeds approximately 1/2 inch deep.
4. Place the containers on a heated propagator mat and maintain a soil temperature near 80°F. Keep the planted seeds under a bright grow light.
5. Cover the containers with a humidity dome to maintain high humidity and prevent the growing medium from drying out. Provide a small amount of ventilation to encourage air circulation.
6. Keep the growing medium consistently moist but never wet or waterlogged. Excess moisture may cause the seeds to rot.
7. Periodically inspect the seeds and growing medium for signs of mold or fungus. If mold develops, carefully remove the affected seeds, clean them with an appropriately labeled copper-based fungicide according to the product directions, rinse if directed, and replant them in fresh, sterile growing medium.
8. Germination is naturally irregular and requires patience. Many seeds may germinate within 1–3 months, while some may take up to 6 months. Do not discard seeds that fail to sprout early, as viable seeds may require additional time.
